General Tso cocktail sausages for lunchbox

An original Asian fusion lunch! Mini sausages coated in sweet and spicy General Tso's sauce, accompanied by crunchy vegetables and wonton chips for a fun meal to savor.

  • Ingredients

    • 32 cocktail sausages
    • 2 tsp sesame oil
    • 2 tsp ginger, grated
    • 3 green onions, bias cut
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1/2 cup maple syrup (preferably amber for rich taste)
    • 2 tbsp cornstarch
    • 1/4 cup soy sauce
    • 1/2 cup chili sauce
    • 2 cucumbers, cut into sticks
    • 4 carrots, julienned
    • 2 cups wonton chips
    • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
    • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Preparation

    1. Cook the cocktail sausages according to package directions.
    2. In a saucepan, combine sesame oil, ginger and green onions and cook over medium-high heat for 3 minutes.
    3. Add water and maple syrup and simmer for 1 more minute.
    4. Meanwhile, in a bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in soy sauce and chili sauce, then pour into the saucepan. Cook for 2 more minutes until the sauce thickens.
    5. Add the cooked sausages to the sauce and coat well.
    6. Let the sauced sausages cool.
    7. Cut the vegetables into similarly sized sticks.
    8. Place the General Tso's sausages in one compartment of the containers.
    9. Arrange the vegetable sticks in another compartment.
    10. Add the wonton chips to the last compartment.
    11. Sprinkle sausages with sesame seeds and chopped cilantro.
