When you wear the hats of mother, employee or entrepreneur, partner, daughter and more all at once, your to-do list often grows quickly, and it can be hard to set priorities. To help you plan your weeks well and get everything that needs doing done efficiently, follow these few tips.
Tell the urgent from the important
An urgent task cannot wait and absolutely must be done as soon as possible. An important task, on the other hand, doesn't need immediate attention but remains essential to reaching your goals.
Identify your most productive times
When it's time to slot the various tasks into your weekly schedule, be sure to do it according to your work rhythm and how well you can fully concentrate at different times of day. For example, avoid putting an important meeting in your calendar late in the day if you're usually more tired by then, and schedule your brainstorming sessions early in the morning instead if you tend to have your best ideas when you wake up.
Allow enough time for each task
To avoid always feeling like you're falling behind on your to-do list, make sure you allow enough time for each thing you need to do. Above all, be realistic and don't forget to account for the inevitable distractions.
Know how to delegate
If your to-do list seems too big for the time you actually have in a week, take a moment to assess whether some tasks could be delegated instead. Sometimes it can be more cost-effective to pay someone to do the task for you rather than spend the time doing it yourself.
Finally, although the electronic version of the famous to-do list is sometimes handy, a paper version will give you easy access to your weekly or daily schedule at all times!
