Organizing Mother's Day without the pressure

01 May, 2026

Even though it should be a day of recognition, sweetness, and small pleasures, Mother's Day often turns into a source of stress, for fathers who don't know what to organize, for children who try to do things right, and even for mothers themselves who sometimes end up coordinating everything despite themselves. This year, to try to do things differently, here are some tips for celebrating Mother's Day intentionally, without falling into the trap of perfection.

Ask her what she really wants

The best gift you can offer a mother is often simply to ask her what she wants, and really listen! Not what we think she should want, not what we saw on Pinterest, but what would make her feel good this year, in the life she's living right now.

Some mothers dream of a morning alone, with no one to manage. Others want a family meal around a beautiful table. Still others prefer an outdoor outing, an activity with the children, or simply a day without having to make decisions. No option is better than another; the only one that matters is the one that truly suits the person being celebrated!

Simple ideas that have value

We often believe that the value of a gift is measured by its price or the effort put into finding it. But the most memorable gifts are rarely the most expensive, but rather those that show you've really thought about the person you're giving it to.

Some concrete and accessible ideas:

  • A notebook in which each child has completed sentences like "What I like most about you is..." or "My favorite memory with you is..."
  • A homemade coupon for coffee in bed, a movie night of her choice, or a chore-free day
  • A printed photo album with the best photos of the year
  • An activity chosen with her: a walk, a brunch, a visit she's wanted to do for a long time
  • A meal cooked entirely by the children, regardless of the result!
  • For other ideas, take the time to discover our little trick created especially for the occasion!

The common thread of all these ideas? They require time and attention, but not a big budget!

Organize, without it falling back on her!

The classic trap of Mother's Day is that the mother ends up organizing her own celebration. To avoid this scenario, designate a person in charge from the outset, whether it's the father, an older child, or even the grandparents. This person should take care of the logistics and ensure that the day runs smoothly without mom having to intervene.

Concretely, this means: reserving the table, planning meals, preparing gifts, managing the children in the morning so she can sleep in or take time for herself. To facilitate organization and ensure you don't forget anything, create a list in Octave in advance of all the tasks that need to be done, so that everyone knows exactly what to do.

What mothers really need

Ultimately, most mothers often don't want anything extraordinary for Mother's Day. They simply want to feel seen, recognized, and freed, even temporarily, from the burden of managing everything. And why not try to do it all year round? 😉
