07 November, 2022
If you can't stand spending an hour of your weekend at the local grocery store every week, in addition to the time spent commuting and putting everything away once you get home, it's time to create your own food storage room ! Free up a room in the house, a closet or a section of your pantry, and follow these few tips that will not only save you time and energy , but always have everything on hand to whip up delicious meals for your family!
Dry foods to keep in reserve in your food storage room (to adapt of course according to your needs and the tastes of your family!):
- Large flour bins (wheat, all-purpose, etc.)
- Large rice and oat bins
- boxes of breakfast cereal
- Preserves (diced tomatoes, tomato paste, corn, coconut milk, broth, etc.)
- Snacks (applesauce, granola bars, crackers, etc.)
- Desserts (cake mix, cookies, jello, etc.)
- Breakfast foods (peanut butter, jam, etc.)
- Pasta
- Condiments (ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, etc.)
- Oils (olive, vegetable, etc.)
- Baking goods (sugar, baking powder, chocolate chips, etc.)
Frozen foods to store in an extra freezer:
- Frozen fruits and vegetables
- Prepared meals (muffins, lasagna, spaghetti sauce, etc.)
- Beef (ground, steak, cubes, etc.)
- Pork (minced, tenderloin, ham, etc.)
- Fish (sole, salmon, croquettes, etc.)
- Seafood (shrimp, scallops, etc.)
To easily find what you need in the freezer and to promote the autonomy of young and old alike, classify food by category in well-identified bins (find our storage labels right here! ) .
Fresh foods to keep in an extra fridge:
- Cheese (sliced, brick, cream, etc.)
- Potatoes
- Yogurt
- Some onions
To provide in your storage room:
- A small transport basket, which will allow both you and your children to easily transport food from the storeroom to the kitchen
- A place to store small appliances, often bulky in the kitchen (slow cooker, raclette oven, pressure cooker, etc.)
