Baby Essentials According to Your Parenting Style
10 March, 2022
The essentials to have for the arrival of the baby differ from one person to another. There are objects that seem indispensable to us and that, once the baby has arrived, are completely useless to us. There are others that we did not want to buy, not seeing the use for them, and that we quickly went to get. It can be difficult to predict the objects that we will need; it all depends on the choices that we make for ourselves and our children. It is with this in mind that we have created our list of essentials: consult our practical guide to have it and complete it.
We also asked our collaborators to provide us with a list of their 5 to 10 essentials to have for welcoming baby. Here are their suggestions!
Name: Sarah Baribeau
Age: 38 years old
Mother: 3 children aged 4, 7 and 10
Company: Bougeotte and Placotine
Here are my essentials:
- Nursing pads
- A lightweight and rigid baby sling
- A nursing pillow (made of buckwheat hulls)
- A shaping panty , for comfort and without the expectation of slimming anything :)
- My 1 liter water bottle next to my rocking chair
- A rocking chair
- Nursing tank tops that I wear under all my sweaters
- A coat extension
- Dr.Jack Human Cream for Sore Nipples
Name: Laurence Morency-Guay
Age: 32 years old
Mom: 2 children aged 2 and 4
Business: Parent who learns
Here are my essentials:
- A deckchair : so practical for installing baby when you want to free your arms! Without forcing a posture, the small net hammock fits the shape of the baby by comfortably straightening him up! A must here!
- Bottles : One regret I had with my first baby was not being equipped for anything except breastfeeding. I had to make this purchase at the last minute, stressed and postpartum. Just having some on hand in case something sticks can be comforting, in my opinion!
- A white noise machine : here, it has always helped with sleeping!
- A journal : I didn't want to forget anything, I wrote everything down and I'm so happy to have this to look at with them to remember these precious moments
-
A Snuggle Me : It comforted my daughter so much the first few months when we put her in there, it was like a constant cuddle for her sleep!
Name: Elizabeth Alescio
Age: 40 years old
Mother: 2 children aged 6 and 9
Company: Miss Tidy-Up
Here are my essentials:
- Breastfeeding Nipple Shields : When you are breastfeeding and the baby bites the nipple and makes it bleed, this product is a lifesaver to continue breastfeeding!
- A baby nose cleaner
- Medela cream
- A booster seat for a chair : so practical when you go to dinner with friends or family
-
Fennel water : for digestive problems and colic – truly miraculous!
Name: Julie Tremblay-Potvin
Age: 38 years old
Mother: 2 children aged 5 and 8
Company: Seasonal
Here is my list of favorites and essentials that combine simplicity, softness and comfort to enjoy the #whitetime that parental leave can offer us (in the best moments):
- The Stokke high chair with the baby seat (maybe not essential, but a favorite) Compact, nice to look at and super practical for having baby at our height without having to take up space on the table.
- A warm cover for the stroller, perfect to encourage us to go out in winter, skate, walk, while baby takes a Scandinavian nap
- A baby carrier, for walking in the forest (ergobaby) and having your hands free (bamboo sling or ringsling) when baby wants to be close to us
- Books, because it's never too early for books
- Pacifiers, comforters and soft clothing that work for every occasion
- Everyday objects to handle in all the rooms when baby grows; to avoid running after toys, I arranged a few, well hidden in pretty baskets or I grabbed decorative objects adapted to the baby to occupy him (coasters, measuring cups)
- A cooler bag that can be put in the freezer and in which you can easily transport baby bottles and food.
- A bottle dryer that beautifies our countertop instead of making it look cluttered
- A small speaker to play music by Rock-a-bye baby or Alexandra Stréliski, creating a soothing atmosphere for babies and parents
