Ladoo (Indian dessert)

These little balls made with butter, grated coconut, sweetened condensed milk, a touch of cardamom and coated with coconut, the perfect little sweet and exotic touch to end the meal in style!

Freeze for three months.

  • Ingredients

    • 2 tbsp (30 ml) ghee (or butter)
    • 1½ cups (375 ml) unsweetened shredded coconut
    • ¾ cup (190 ml) sweetened condensed milk
    • ½ tsp (3 ml) ground cardamom
    • Coating
    • ½ cup (125 ml) shredded coconut
  • Preparation

    1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat 2 tbsp (30 ml) ghee, then toast 1½ cups (375 ml) coconut for 3 minutes, stirring often.
    2. Add the condensed milk and cardamom and simmer over low heat until thickened.
    3. Let cool completely in the refrigerator (or freezer).
    4. Form small balls the size of a ping pong ball. Roll each ball in grated coconut.
    5. Store in the refrigerator for 14 days or in the freezer for 3 months.

Notes and tips

Replace the shredded coconut coating with ½ cup (125 ml) almond powder.
