Italian submarines

Who says you have to go to a restaurant to enjoy a good submarine? Try this combination of fondue beef, sliced ​​pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, lettuce and tomatoes, all topped with a tasty Italian dressing, and you'll have a submarine that's just as good as the store-bought ones!

  • Ingredients

    • 2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil
    • 300 g (⅔ lb) fondue beef
    • 150 g (⅓ lb) sliced ​​pepperoni
    • 1 cup (250 ml) shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 2 cups (500 ml) chopped iceberg lettuce
    • 2 ripe tomatoes, sliced
    • ¼ to ½ cup (60 to 125 ml) Italian dressing
    • Salt and pepper from the mill
    • 4 submarine buns
  • Preparation

    1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
    2. In a skillet, heat 2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil and cook the fondue beef over medium-high heat for 1 minute on each side or until cooked through. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
    3. Open submarine buns and top with cooked beef, pepperoni and shredded cheese.
    4. To serve immediately: Place the subs in the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Add the lettuce, a few slices of tomato and drizzle with the dressing.
    5. If you do not want to serve immediately, place the filled buns in the refrigerator before baking. All you have to do is bake them when the time comes.
